How do I assign DoE Unit of Work assessments?

To support your teaching of the DoE Units of Work and in response to educator feedback, we have created both Maths and English assessments aligned to the K-6 DoE Units of Work. You can find these under Manage Class Assessments.

Adding Units of Work to your class

Click into your class and select Manage Class Assessments. From this menu, choose the new Units of Work tab next to Flexi.

Use the + icon to open the Units of Work menu and preview the School Library.

The School Library is organised by subject, stage, and term to toggle between. You can also switch between NSW Units of Work and Custom NSW Units of Work.

All Unit of Work assessments available according to your filtering appear in a list. The strand(s) that the Unit pertains to is also highlighted through a colour-coded tag.

  • Number and Algebra (yellow)
  • Measurement and Space (blue)
  • Statistics and Probability (pink)

Select the + icon in the top right to add one for use in your class.

The Unit added to class button will appear afterwards.

The Unit of Work assessment will now appear under the Mathematics or English banner for the Units of Work tab in Manage Class Assessments, ready to be used.

Once the Unit of Work assessments are added to your class, they function the same as regular assessments. You can click the underlined Unit name to load it up for your class, and toggle the SET button to assign work to your classes.

Make sure your assessment options are as intended:

If you'd like to assess only once in a unit, you will need to utilise the pre-assessment only.

Unit of Work assessments are also available as paper-based assessments.

Reviewing Unit of Work indicators

We strongly recommend reviewing the Unit of Work assessment indicators before assigning a Unit of Work assessment to your students. Under the Units of Work menu, select the four arrows to show the indicators for the Unit.

From here, you can see the specific content indicators that the Unit of Work assessment uses to assess.

Corresponding My Numeracy & My Literacy activities will flow on from these organisers based on student understanding in the assessment, if My Numeracy and My Literacy is toggled ON:

Creating a custom Unit of Work

You can easily adjust a Unit of Work assessment on EA to reduce its length or scope, or two merge multiple Units of Work assessments together.

Removing indicators

Next to a Unit of Work assessment you'd like to customise, select the pencil icon.

To remove indicators, simply untick the checkbox beside the indicator.

There is no ability to add individual indicators to Units of Work.

Merging Units

Select the arrows icon to bring merge any existing Unit of Work Assessment into your current Custom Unit. You can continue to use the Checklist to filter specific indicators.

Unit of Work assessments that are added will appear greyed out. Press the minus icon to undo adding them.

You can only merge Unit of Work assessments within a term.

Select Create Unit to add the Custom Unit to your School Library under the Custom NSW Units of Work tab.

You can then proceed to add the Custom Unit to your class. Once added to your class's assessment bank, it will be tagged as a Custom Unit to distinguish.

Once a Custom Unit has been created, it cannot be edited again.

Removing a Unit of Work

Under Manage Class Assessments, select the pencil icon to remove a Unit of Work assessment from your class.

Press REMOVE to instantly remove the Unit from your class.

A Unit of Work assessment with data attached cannot be removed. Class data will need to be cleared first for the Unit.

Reviewing Unit of Work results

Unit of Work assessments function similarly to our Flexi-assessments. Once assessments have been enabled and are completed, you can view individual results by clicking on the student's name.

Unit of Work assessments may assess across more than one Strand. Accordingly, you can hover over the colour-coded scores to see how students performed on average by indicator in the respective strands. The overall score is an average level approximation generated by looking at student understanding across all content organisers.

Below the score, hover over the Content Descriptor boxes to see which areas were understood or misunderstood. These are also colour-coded by Strand.

Select View Class Results from the class page to see further insights into this.
