Implementation Considerations for Using Essential Assessment in the Home Environment

Essential Assessment empowers teachers to extend learning beyond the classroom through flexible, curriculum-aligned, and data-informed tools.

By combining digital tasks, Learning Library resources, fluency apps, and Class Snapshot insights, educators can ensure every minute of home learning is purposeful, visible, and aligned to each student’s learning goals.

To maintain data security and preserve assessment integrity, teachers should follow this process when using EA for home learning:

  • Turn OFF the Assessment toggle when students are working from home.
  • Turn it ON only during supervised, in-class assessments, and OFF again when complete.

  • Add or remove tasks to manage what students can access from home.
  • Enable the Continuum Order so that tasks flow logically through the learning sequence.
  • Attach relevant Learning Videos to guide students through key concepts independently.

These small adjustments allow teachers to structure meaningful, monitored home learning while safeguarding classroom data.

Gap Analysis and Reinforcement Tools

Gap analysis can be conducted in two formats:

  1. Online Tasks - My Numeracy and My Literacy

Students engage in differentiated, curriculum-matched tasks that target specific skill gaps. Tasks provide immediate feedback, allowing teachers to see progress in real time and plan next steps.

  2. Printable Worksheets

Teachers can export printable, curriculum-aligned worksheets for targeted reinforcement or offline learning.

These are ideal for students needing additional support or when digital access is limited.

Together, these options enable teachers to identify, address, and monitor student learning gaps - both online and offline.

The Learning Library

The Learning Library offers a comprehensive range of curriculum-aligned instructional videos and printable resources that complement assigned tasks. Teachers can:

  • Assign videos that align with current units or student-specific goals.
  • Reinforce concepts introduced in class through clear, step-by-step explanations.
  • Extend learning by combining video instruction with digital practice tasks.

Used alongside My Numeracy and My Literacy, the Learning Library supports a complete cycle of learning:

→ Diagnose → Practice → Reinforce → Consolidate
