Schools report against curriculum content descriptions, supported by clear evidence. This export helps make that process clearer and more efficient by showing what each student has demonstrated against specific content descriptions, highlighting future learning focus areas, and providing curriculum-linked evidence to support reporting and parent conversations.
How to Export the Strand Content Descriptions Overview
Navigating the Different Excel Tabs
Tab 1 — Filters Applied
This tab includes:
School and class details
Selected Strand
Filters applied (substrands, year, month range — displays "All" when every substrand for the strand is selected)
Colour legend for easy interpretation
Tab 2 — Strand Content Descriptions Overview (Student View)
This tab includes:
Each student's average level, growth, and A–E grade (A–E shown only if enabled in your school's configuration)
A column for every assessed content description, sorted first by Level and then by curriculum order
Colour-coded student progression for each content description, matching the on-screen legend
Zone of Proximal Development highlighted in yellow
Tab 3 — Strand Content Descriptions Overall
This tab includes:
Level
Substrand
content description code and full text
Overall class understanding (%) for each content description
Please note: Only Content Descriptions that have been assessed are included in the AC/VC export. This is different from the NSW Strand Overview export, which displays all indicators regardless of assessment status.
How can I use this data?
Follow these steps to ensure your assessment, planning, and reporting stay consistent, targeted, and meaningful.
Strengthening Reporting
When making reporting judgments:
Match student work directly to specific content descriptions (not general impressions).
Use annotated samples or evidence to justify your decision.
Ensure your grade or comment reflects what the student consistently demonstrates, not a one-off task.
In practice: Instead of writing "working well," link to a content description (e.g. identifies and uses different types of texts for different purposes) and base your judgment on multiple pieces of evidence.
