How can I use the Analyse function?

Overview

The Analyse function gives you access to assessment data across your school. You can explore performance at the school, year or class level.

Analyse is made up of two main views:

• Dashboard: Compares current years to previous years. giving a high-level snapshot of achievement and progress across subjects and strands.

Analysis: lets you drill into detailed strand and sub-strand data.

Both views support exporting so you can share findings with your team or school leaders.

  • PDF export captures exactly what is currently visible on screen.
  • XLSX provides a spreadsheet of the results from the current view.

Analysis

The Analysis tab lets you examine strand and sub-strand data in detail. You can view results at the school, year or class level and switch between average results and growth.

  1. Select subject and curriculum version (e.g., Mathematics AC9)
  2. Select to see overall subject or strand (e.g. Mathematics Average, Number, Multiplicative Strategies)
  3. Select Average or Growth View

Viewing data at different levels

School level: The Analysis tab initially displays whole-school data averaged for each year level.

Year level: Click the >> icon next to a year level to view data by class.

Class level: Click the >> icon next to a class to view individual student data.

Subject View

Growth View is only visible when using the ‘Overall’ filter and shows progress between semesters.

Average View shows a point-in-time average for all assessments for this subject. Scores are rounded to the nearest 0.5 (AC/VC) or 0.25 (NSW).

  • Semester Average is the average of the latest from PRE/MID/POST assessments across all strands completed in the selected semester and rounded to the nearest 0.5 for AC/VC and to the nearest 0.25 for NSW.
  • Overall Average is the average of the latest PRE/MID/POST assessments across all strands completed up until the current date, rounded to the nearest 0.5 for AC/VC and to the nearest 0.25 for NSW.

Strand View

You can toggle between two ways of viewing your data: Average View and Growth View

Average View:

  • Strand average is the average of the latest from PRE/MID/POST assessments for the selected strand completed up until the current date and rounded to the nearest 0.5 for AC/VC and to the nearest 0.25 for NSW. (presented as the largest circle)
  • PRE/MID or POST average is the average of either of the selected PRE/MID/POST assessments  for the selected strand completed up to the current date, rounded to the nearest 0.5 for AC/VC and to the nearest 0.25 for NSW.

Growth View: shows the progress made between PRE and MID/POST averages, where data exists.

You can view data for the entire Strand or select sub-strands and topics in the drop-down menu.

Average View - AC/VC

Average View - NSW

Dashboard

The Dashboard tab provides a high-level view of achievement and progress across your school, year or class.

Filtering Your View

Use the filters at the top of the screen to choose how you want to view your data:

•       School Analysis: a whole-school view.

•       Year: focus on a specific year level.

•       Classes: view data for individual classes.

Dashboard - Unpacking the Data

The Dashboard displays two charts that give you a complete picture of performance across strands. Use them side by side to understand both the spread of results and the proportion of students meeting expectations.

Box and Whisker Plot

The box and whisker plot (displayed at the top) shows the distribution and range of student performance levels for each strand across semesters. Each element of the chart represents:

•       The box: the middle 50% of students.

•       The whiskers: the full range of performance, from the lowest to the highest result.

Use this chart to understand how performance is spread across your cohort and to compare strands over time. A wide box or long whiskers indicates a broad range of performance levels within the group.

Stacked Bar Chart

The stacked bar chart (displayed below the box and whisker plot) shows the percentage of students in each performance category:

•       Green: Above expected.

•       Orange: At expected.

•       Red: Below expected.

Compare these percentages across strands and between years — for example, 2025 versus 2026 — to see where improvement is occurring and which areas may need further attention.
