User Guide: Sunset Maths Learning App
Welcome to Sunset Maths! This Learning App is designed to help students sharpen their mental mathematics skills in a fun, engaging environment. The program covers the four core operations—Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, and Division—as well as essential measurement and geometry concepts, including Money, Length, and Capacity.
Sunset Maths aligns with curriculum standards and adapts to each student's specific learning needs, ensuring that practice is relevant and challenging.
How does Sunset Maths Work?
The goal of this app is to build speed and confidence through an engaging, timed challenge. Students are presented with a series of math problems that they must solve before the sun fully sets on their screen.
Students access Sunset Maths via the Games Icon on their main home screen. The specific levels they are presented with are based on their starting level (set by the teacher) and their ongoing performance.
Students must input the correct answer as quickly as possible and every correct answer adds a notch to the visual Progress Bar on the side of the screen. The goal is to fill the entire bar before the sun disappears below the horizon. Successfully completing the bar before the sunset earns Tokens, which are added to the student's profile.
How Student Levels are Set
To ensure students start with a positive and successful experience, Sunset Maths initially allocates a starting point one year below the student's currently enrolled year level. As they progress and succeed, the questions will adapt to their current level and beyond.
Customising Available Topics
Above the students tiles, you will see several toggles for different math categories (e.g., 'Addition,' 'Subtraction,' 'Multiplication').

By toggling these sections "On," you increase the number of operations available for that student. Toggling on additional topics allows students to reach higher overall levels within Sunset Maths, as the question bank is deeper.
Please note: We recommend that you only have one operation set at a time.
Accessing Student Settings
All adjustments for Sunset Maths are made at the individual student level. There is currently no option to apply settings to the entire class at once.
To adjust the students settings, navigate to the Sunset Maths Class Overview, then locate the student you wish to manage.

Click the cogwheel next to their name. This will open up the settings for that specific student. Here, you can change the students starting level, reset their level, or turn the timer off. While the main challenge of Sunset Maths is speed, we recognise that a visible countdown can sometimes create unnecessary math anxiety or increase cognitive load for some students. To create a more inclusive learning environment, teachers have the option to turn the Sun Setting Timer OFF.

Even with the timer off, students still work through the same curriculum-aligned content and fill their progress bar—they just do it at a pace that feels safe manageable for them.
Resetting and Restarting Progress
Sunset Maths allows students to complete four year-levels at a time (for example, Foundation through Year 3).
If a student reaches the end of their 4-level block, you’ll need to manually restart the next set of challenges:
- Click the Cogwheel for that student.
- Set their new Starting Level to Level 4 (or whichever level they are ready for next).
- Once you save this, the next block of content will unlock immediately!
Viewing Student Results
Teachers can view their students' progress directly on via the class overview. These results appear as Tiles on the screen, indicating the current level and overall progress in each topic.

Note: Teachers can view overall progress via the dashboard tiles, but currently, they do not have access to view in-depth, question-by-question results.
