Essential Assessment & VC 2.0 English
The new VC 2.0 Curriculum for English F-10 was released in November 2024, with implementation mandated from Term 1, 2025.
The following guide provides information on how and when Essential Assessment will be supporting the successful implementation and assessment of this new curriculum.
How is EA supporting the new VC 2.0 English curriculum?
Our in-house English development team has been intensively studying the new curriculum since its release in late 2024, analysing its components and considering how best the Essential Assessment platform can support its implementation and assessment.
We are planning to release a brand-new VC 2.0 Literacy product for Levels 2-8 that includes:
- Online & printable strand assessments (Pre/Mid/Post) for Language, Literature and Literacy, organised in 2-year band levels.
- Online My Literacy activities for Language, Literature and Literacy.
- Printable My Literacy Worksheets for Language, Literature and Literacy.
- Topic-based assessments (Pre/Post) covering five areas: Reading Comprehension, Text Structures, Language Features, Rules of Language & Developing Writing.
As part of this work, our dedicated team of in-house Literacy specialists are developing hundreds of new texts and assessment questions, precisely aligned to the new VC 2.0 English curriculum and unique to EA.
When will VC2 English materials be available?
Our VC 2.0 Literacy product will have a phased release. Our first phase is due for release in Term 3, 2025.
This first release will include:
- Strand assessments for Language, Literature and Literacy for Levels 2-8
- My Literacy activities and worksheets (online and printable) for Levels 2-8
More information on later releases will be shared in due course.
What support will be offered to schools?
We understand that schools have had limited time to explore the new curriculum before its implementation, and we're here to provide the support you need to navigate this transition smoothly and confidently.
Our Victorian Educator Conferences in the second half of 2025 will cover Literacy VC 2.0 and best practices for using our new EA Literacy content to support its successful implementation (Dates and venues TBC).
Our dedicated team will also offer free professional development to support teachers wishing to trial and/or use our new EA VC 2.0 Literacy product after its release in Term 3.
How can I be involved?
If you’d like to be involved in beta testing and sharing feedback on our new VC 2.0 Literacy materials, you are warmly invited to join our teacher advisory panel. This is an opportunity to see our new content in its development stage and share your feedback, and won’t require a heavy time commitment.
To join the panel, please email your contact details and an expression of interest to info@essentialassessment.com.au.
