An introduction to the DoE Units of Work

To support your teaching of the DoE Units of Work and in response to educator feedback, we’re creating Maths and English assessments aligned to the K-6 DoE Units of Work to help you measure learning growth.

This article contains some more information about what we’ll be releasing, when and why.

About the project

We’re thrilled to be supporting NSW educators by creating assessments aligned to the DoE Units of Work. This is a gradual release project, meaning not all Unit assessments will be available at once.

We’re focusing on the K-6 single-stage Units at this stage, and building a pre and post-assessment for each.

What's coming first?

In Term 2 2024, we’ll start by releasing Pre & Post Assessments for each published Unit for Literacy K-2 and for some Units in Numeracy K-6.

These first assessments will be built from our existing NSW question banks initially, and we’ll look to expand on the questions included in the assessments over time.

What about 3-6 English Unit assessments?

English Years K-2 Units have already been released, so pre and post-unit assessments for these year levels will be released first.

At this time English Years 3-6 Units have only been released for Terms 1 and 2, once the Terms 3 and 4 Units are available, we’ll review and update everyone on the release schedule for English Years 3-6 Unit assessments.

How many Maths units will be available in Term 2?

K-2 Maths Units of Work have been released already. We’re aiming to release X assessments in April, using our existing NSW question banks.

Only 7 Year 3-6 units have been released so far - we’re waiting for quite a few more to come. We’ll work on assessments for the already-released units first.

When will the other Maths Unit assessments be released?

We’re expecting new Units to be released in April. Once these are released, we’ll begin mapping our content to them and provide an update on when linked assessments for these units will be available.

We’ll need time to evaluate each unit and map these to our assessment resources.

What functionality will be included?

  • The flexibility to use one or both assessments per unit.
  • The ability to assess one or multiple Units at a time.
  • The ability to remove indicators if you wish.
